Grill Point

December, 2002, Comedy

Directed by:Andreas Dresen

Starring:Steffi Kühnert, Gabriela Maria Schmeide, Thorsten Merten, and Axel Prahl

This is the third film made by German director Andreas Dresen. My remarks are abbreviated only because this film was only shown by the Museum of Modern Art's film program, and won't be released commercially here. And that's a real pity, for this witty examination of middle-class infidelity in an East German city features both a perceptive script and superb acting. The film's score is performed by a group called the "17 Hippies", who gradually become part of the cast. Clear eyed about the challenges of marriage in a world of few options but equally respectful of its characters when their pants are down, this one's a winner.
